April is Autism Awareness Month
Thursday, April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurological disorder that seems to affect a person's brain development at a very early age. Characteristics include difficulty with social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication, and repetitive verbal or physical behaviors. A student diagnosed with ASD may show symptoms along a very broad spectrum, from very severe to very mild. Scientists have yet to pinpoint a definitive cause or develop a cure for ASD.

Autism Speaks, an organization that raises funds for research and awareness, celebrates its international Light it Up Blue Campaign, each April 2nd. Thousands of iconic landmarks, communities, businesses and homes across the globe unite by shining bright blue lights in honor of the millions of individuals and families around the world affected by autism.

To create our own Light it Up Blue event at DHS, we are asking the school community to display the color blue in all manner to raise awareness and support for students with autism. Paint your nails, wear blue clothes, dye your hair! Let's Light Up DHS and show our fellow students we support them in raising awareness about ASD.

Driver Education
The next Driver education class will begin on Monday, March 30th and will run through Monday, April 13th. Students who have been assigned to this class have been notified through their school email. Check your email as soon possible to find out if you are in this class.

A list of students by ID number has been posted in the window of Mrs. Nunes's office and Mrs. St. Pierre's office. Please check one of these locations for your ID #. Class will be held in room A27 from 2:05-5:05 p.m. Students must report directly from their block 4 class.

Students must also obtain a copy of the Driver's Manuel from the Registry of Motor Behicles prior to the first day of class. These can be downloaded from the website http://www.massrmv.com or you can pick one up at any RMV branch office.
