Religion and Culture Unit Project
 

Assignment:
Each student will compose an oral presentation and a Glogster poster concerning the following information about their assigned religion or area of cultural study. You should also have maps and other visuals to enhance your presentation. You should have a works cited with a minimum of 5 total sources for your information done in proper MLA format. Make sure that the sources you use are authoritative. Any images used need to be copyright friendly and properly cited in MLA format. Go to edu.glogster.com to get started. Look at the one that Mrs. Mitchell is working on for a grant http://ldm1.glogster.com/the-pet-project/


The following should be included in your presentation if you are working on a religion:


a. Hearth of the religion

b. Major location(s) in the world – use map

c. Location(s) in the United States – use map

d. Major religious beliefs

e. Ethnic, universalist, monotheistic, polytheistic.

f. Major historical events in its diffusion (role in politics)

g. How does the religion affect the cultural landscape / environment – these would include sacred locations?


Major World Religions – some are broken into sects:

Christianity -- Protestant and Catholic (Roman and Eastern Orthodox)

Islam -- Sunni and Shiites

Judaism

Hinduism

Buddhism

Confucianism

Taoism

The following should be included if your presentation is about Pop or folk culture:

a. Definition

b. Examples of pop/folk culture in the United States

c. Examples of pop/folk culture from around the world

d. Diffusion of pop/folk culture – use maps to help with this

e. How can pop/folk culture be seen in the cultural landscape

f. Conflicts that have stemmed from pop/folk culture

Information (Make sure this is plentiful, contains specific, relevant examples and meets the requirements of the assignment as listed.) – 20 points
Creativity –10 points
Connection of images to topic (These should be chosen for specific reasons rather than just being random. The connection should be clear.) – 10 points
Works Cited (proper MLA format and authoritative sources) All images sources should also be cited. – 10 points

Posture/Eye Contact (5 points)
Speaks Clearly (5 points)
